This is a very special micro-lot from Rusty’s Farm, one that really marks a high point in getting the terroir to pitch-perfect. This year’s lot of Ka’u is a complex blend of green grape, pineapple, blackberry, sweet lime, and hints of hazelnut. The best Hawaiian in years.

Rusty’s is a twelve-acre farm in Ka’u, a growing area snuggled against the southern slope of the great Mauna Loa volcano on the big island of Hawaii. It is not far from the Kona area but has in the last few years overtaken its more famous neighbor in quality appreciation for a number of aficionados.

Lorie Obra owns and runs the farm; her story is one of passion and perseverance. In her words: “My driving force why I succeed in this industry is because of my one goal, to make my late husband's vision and dream come true. That is to make Ka'u coffee one of the elite coffees in the world. I have worked doggedly to achieve that in the most honest way possible.“

Farm owner Lorie Obra's story is compelling. Read more about it here and here.
